Wish I knew more about you...

Every day as I remember my life with you I wish
I‘d had more time with you, more time to love you, to learn more about your life. To hear you talk about your younger years, the things you dreamed about, what made you smile, what made you cry. To learn more about the woman I so much admired, because the power in her eyes made her invisible, the way people admired her work made her a hero, because she was not only my mother, but a healer, an artist, a creative soul, but especially because there was nothing she could not do when she set her mind to it. When we are young we live the day by day never thinking ahead to the future, which is sad to think that we will one day grow up and have all these missing answers to all these questions. As I think about you mom I ask myself what was your favorite color, your favorite song, your favorite food. Amazingly I don't have the answers and how I so wish I would have had more time to know you instead of wasting all that time we did have. As I grow older and see how motherhood is so complex, I can only hope that my children never have to look back and say “I wish I had more time to know the woman who was my mother”.
